What we believe
We are a confessional Lutheran Church Missouri Synod congregation. This means we believe, teach, and confess the Christian faith exactly as it is revealed in Holy Scripture and faithfully summarized in the Lutheran Confessions (contained in the Book of Concord).
Jesus Christ
We confess that Jesus is true God and true man. He lived a perfect life, died on the cross as the sacrifice for the sins of the whole world, rose bodily from the dead on the third day, and now reigns victorious. Through His death and resurrection, He has won forgiveness and eternal life for all people.
The Triune God
We worship one God in three persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit.
The Bible
We believe the Old and New Testaments are the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God. It is the only rule and norm for Christian faith and life.
The Church’s Mission
Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we exist to make known the love of Christ by word and deed in our community and beyond.
Salvation by Grace Alone
We are saved not by our own works or efforts, but solely by God’s undeserved grace (favor) for the sake of Jesus Christ.
Faith Alone
We receive this free gift of salvation through faith in Christ alone, which itself is a gift created in us by the Holy Spirit.
Scripture Alone
All teachings must be judged by the clear words of the Bible.
The Sacraments
We joyfully receive the two sacraments Christ instituted:
The Lord’s Supper (Holy Communion), in which Christ gives us His true body and blood for the forgiveness of sins.
Holy Baptism, through which God forgives sins, rescues from death and the devil, and give eternal salvation to all who belive.
our story
How does any church start?
Through Christ.
We fell in love with the high country. Ashe, Alleghany, and surrounding areas is where we want to live, raise families, be part of the community. But, we didn’t have a church near that believed what we did. Do you conform your beliefs for convivence? So, for many of us, that meant driving 2 hours on Sundays to Mountainside Lutheran Church in Linville, NC. A wonderful church with wonderful people. Soon, we learned that many of us were making that trek from the Ashe area and we began to wonder if there was enough of us to start a church in Ashe County.
We put the word out, LCMS churches in the foothills printed a notice in their bulletins. We started asking on Facebook – are there any Missouri Synod Lutherans interested in a church of their own in Ashe County?
There were. Many. And so we begin.
The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod
The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) was founded in 1847 by faithful German immigrants who wanted a church that stayed true to the Bible and the historic Christian faith. Led by C.F.W. Walther, they formed a confessional Lutheran church body committed to the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ. Today, the LCMS continues that same commitment: holding firmly to Scripture while joyfully sharing Christ’s love in a changing world.
Today, the LCMS is one of the largest Lutheran church bodies in the United States, with nearly 1.7 million baptized members across more than 5,700 congregations and about 9,000 pastors. LCMS has two seminaries, six universities, and a large network of Christian schools.
